Summer
keeps us busy at the different Celtic Festivals - Hope to see you there! |
Sandi - Hi , I'm usually the one behind the camera, but here you see us both busy
blowing glass (looks like one of our oil lamps).
I have been interested in art of one kind or another since I was small
enough to hold a crayon - I grew up as "the artist" in the family (as it turns
out, a couple of my siblings are just as talented as I ever was).
I have a painting background and have a strong interest in fiber
arts. In 1993 I got my first taste of stained glass and have been addicted ever
since. ( I'm the one who does most of our stained glass, however, both of
us are quite proficient in all the different techniques).
I am also the owner and sole employee of "Knotty But Nice" - I make
contemporary clothing embellished with celtic knotwork (I will be adding this line to our
website as soon as I have time to get some pictures taken!)
Mike - My initial interest in creating things was through
woodworking. I started by making craft items and eventually ended up
working in a shop making high
end custom furniture which included veneering, inlay, marquetry and carving.
I am particularly interested in pen & ink and colored pencil
illustration, enjoy drawing and I have some background in puppetry.
I took my first stained glass class 6 years ago and after
that, the only way to
describe what happened is "a giant sucking sound" , I got
pulled further and further into the world of glass art. I have
done neon, fusing , beadmaking and have been doing off-hand
glassblowing for 4 years. I enjoy sandblast carving because of the
illustrative effect that is possible with this particular technique.
I love looking at different art forms and trying to figure out
how to do the different
things in glass. I would like to get more involved in making mixed media and non-
representative art work.
Woodland Glass Arts Studio -We started as a
stained glass studio
doing mostly commission work and have continued to add different glass
techniques to our business. Currently we do stained glass, etched and carved
glass, glass slumping and fusing, offhand glass blowing, bead making and are
now in the process of learning lampworking. We are both award winning glass artists
and are always "pushing the envelope" when it comes to applying new techniques
or doing something really different with old techniques. We also have
a school, Rocky Mountain Creative Art Center, where we invite nationally known
glass artists to come and teach workshops during the year. ( If you are
interested in learning glass techniques - you can find us at www.rockymountaincac.com )
